After helping William & Mary rally for a 30-27 overtime victory Saturday at Campbell, kicker Keegan Shackford was honored as the CAA Special Teams Player of the Week.
Shackford made all three of his field-goal attempts, highlighted by a game-tying 38-yard kick with 1 second remaining in regulation. He connected on attempts from 41 and 47 yards during the first half.
Shackford, whose mother, Julie, is the Tribe’s women’s soccer coach, has made at least one field goal in six straight games and is 8 for 12 this season. He has made 32 of 33 PATs.
Fight prompts end of season for Guilford, Averett
Guilford and Averett are ending their football seasons early after getting in a major fight after Saturday’s contest, which the visiting Cougars won 27-21.
In conjunction with the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, both teams will forfeit what were scheduled to be their season finales. Bridgewater and Roanoke, the recipients of those forfeit wins, also are ending their seasons.
In a statement, the ODAC “determined that the post-game altercation between the two programs does not uphold the standards of sportsmanship, respect, and conduct expected within the ODAC.”
JMU to play at 1 or 2 p.m. Nov. 22
Kickoff times and video coverage for some Nov. 22 games were revealed Monday.
No. 24 James Madison’s regular-season home finale against Washington State will be at 1 or 2 p.m. and will be shown on ESPN+.
Virginia Tech’s home game against Miami and Duke’s game at North Carolina, among others, were placed on a six-day hold. Those details won’t be revealed until after Saturday’s results.

NSU’s Jenkins gains MEAC rookie honor
Norfolk State redshirt freshman My’kel Jenkins was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
A native of Tarboro, North Carolina, Jenkins made an immediate impact for the Spartans, logging 63 minutes across three contests. He totaled 39 points, 16 rebounds, three assists, three blocks and five steals.
UNC, Hokies freshmen share top ACC honors
North Carolina freshman forward Caleb Wilson and Virginia Tech freshman guard Neoklis Avdalas shared Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week honors.
Wilson totaled 46 points (on 81% field-goal shooting), 11 rebounds and six assists in wins over Central Arkansas and No. 19 Kansas. Avdalas, from Greece, accumulated 41 points and 15 assists as the Hokies defeated Charleston Southern and Providence.
Liberty, VCU players take conference awards
After nearly averaging a triple-double in three games last week, Liberty senior forward Zach Cleveland earned the first Conference USA Player of the Week award of the season.
In three starts for the Flames (3-0), he averaged 11.3 points, 10.0 rebounds, 7.7 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.3 blocks per game while shooting 56% from the floor and achieving double-doubles in all three contests.
VCU freshman guard Nyk Lewis of Washington, D.C., was chosen as the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week. In a win over Wagner and a loss to Utah State, he totaled 29 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals. He shot 52.6% (10 of 19) from the floor, including 38.5% (5 of 13) from 3-point range.

NSU guard, ex-Crabber grab MEAC honors
Norfolk State guard Jasha Clinton was named the MEAC Player of the Week after averaging 20 points per game during the Spartans’ 2-1 start. The Princess Anne High graduate led the Spartans past the District of Columbia and Virginia State after a loss at Mississippi.
Maryland Eastern Shore freshman forward Kaliya Perry, a former Hampton High star, was the Rookie of the Week. She averaged 13 points, 10 rebounds and two steals in a 1-1 week for the Hawks.

NSU’s Gilbert spikes way to MEAC honor
Norfolk State junior outside hitter Gabrielle Gilbert was named the MEAC Player of the Week. The Indianapolis native led the Spartans to three wins last week, defeating Hampton 3-1, South Carolina State 3-0 and North Carolina Central 3-2.
Gilbert totaled 60 kills and 23 digs in those matches.

Pride of ODU collective taken over by ODU athletics
The Old Dominion Athletic Foundation and ODU Athletics have formally taken control of the Pride of ODU, a private collective formed nearly two years ago to raise money and negotiate Name, Image and Likeness agreements with student-athletes.
The vast majority of colleges and universities are making similar transitions. According to ODU spokesman Harry Minium, some fans could gain potential tax benefits from athletic donations.
