W&M signs 6-9 prep forward from North Carolina



COLLEGE BASKETBALL

William & Mary men’s basketball coach Brian Earl announced the signing of 6-9 forward Kaleb Spencer on Wednesday.

Spencer spent a postgraduate season at Fork Union Military Academy, averaging 11.9 points and 7.4 rebounds a game and earning All-Elite Prep League second-team honors. He connected on 41.5% of his 3-point tries in helping the Blue Devils to a 25-12 record.

An injury limited him to six games in his senior year at First Flight High in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. He played the previous two seasons at Manteo High.

MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL

Tides postponed again

For the second straight day, the Norfolk Tides’ game at St. Paul has been postponed by rain.

The game has been rescheduled as part of a doubleheader on Saturday.

The teams are set to play a 6:07 p.m. doubleheader Thursday.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

NSU’s Journette makes All-NEC

Norfolk State outfielder Justin Journette made the All-Northeast Conference first team on Wednesday, becoming the first Spartan to land on an all-conference first team since the baseball program joined the NEC before the 2023 season.

Journette hit 15 home runs, ranking second in the NEC, and batted a career-best .331 with 45 RBIs this season. He is NSU’s career home run king, belting 39 homers in just three years. Mel Wearing held the previous homer record of 35 for 36 years.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

VWU’s Tucker earns freshman honor

Virginia Wesleyan catcher/outfielder Morgan Tucker is one of 10 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Freshman of the Year finalists.

The ODAC Rookie of the Year hit .492 with 66 RBIs and a .750 slugging percentage.

VT’s McMillan named All-American

Virginia Tech outfielder Cori McMillan has been named a first-team All-American by Softball America.

Liberty utility player Rachel Roupe made the second team.

McMillian hit .432 with 31 homers, 65 RBIs and 15 stolen bases.

MORE COLLEGES

CNU hauls in C2C All-Sports honors

Christopher Newport’s Department of Athletics won the Richard C. Cook All-Sports Trophy from the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference for the eighth time in 10 years. The Captains also earned both the men’s and women’s Commissioner’s Awards.

CNU earned team championships in volleyball, women’s basketball, women’s indoor track and field, softball, men’s tennis, and women’s tennis.

  • William & Mary Athletics Director Brian Mann announced on Wednesday that Tim Pemberton
    has been promoted to Director of Golf. He will also retain his role as men’s golf head coach.
