Lewis Rourke netted two goals as Virginia Beach City FC rolled to a 6-2 victory over Frederick FC on Saturday night at Powhatan Field in National Premier Soccer League competition.
VBCFC improved to three wins, five losses and a draw in the Mid-Atlantic Conference. Frederick dropped to 1-7-1.
VBCFC bolted to a 3-0 lead, thanks to goals by Isaiah Williams in the eighth minute, Ryan Mahon in the 18th and Rourke in the 21st.
The hosts expanded the lead with second-half goals by Rourke in the 60th, Jeremiah Trusty in the 69th and Robert Reynolds in the 85th.
Frederick’s goals came from Jonathan Yowell in the 45th and 80th minutes.
Virginia Atlantic FC women compete to draw
The Virginia Atlantic FC women captured a standings point in the final match of their first USL W League season, playing Charlottesville Blues FC to a 2-2 draw at Powhatan Field in Norfolk.
Virginia Atlantic’s Nileigha Williams scored in the 20th minute, and Marissa Gross added a goal in the 75th. Both goals put the hosts (1-8-1) ahead in a Chesapeake Division clash, but Charlottesville (1-6-3) answered with goals by Reese Coggeshall in the 70th and Izzie Smulik in the 84th.
Lionsbridge shuts out Christos FC
Lionsbridge FC won its second match in a row, dusting Christos FC 5-0 at TowneBank Stadium in Newport News behind two Evan Howard goals.
Saturday night’s match incurred two delays: the first because the visitors from Baltimore were stuck in traffic, and the second because of lightning early in the first half.
The Lions (9-1-3 overall, 7-1-3 in the Chesapeake Division) are competing with first-place Virginia Beach United (8-1-2) and Northern Virginia FC (6-0-3) for the division’s two spots in USL League Two’s playoffs.
Christian Hatley opened the scoring with a shot from the left side in the sixth minute. Luc Achermann then got his second assist of the night by setting up Howard’s header with a cross in the 19th minute.
Denis Krioutchenkov made it 3-0 off a Howard assist in the 39th minute, and Howard scored from a Krioutchenkov assist in the 42nd.
Constantinos Christou added the final goal in the 85th.
