New shortstop shines as Tides extend winning streak to three

The Norfolk Tides increased their International League winning streak to three games by downing Nashville 5-2 Wednesday night before 4,129 at Harbor Park.

The Tides (26-38) have won the first two of a six-game series against the Sounds (38-26). It will continue at 12:05 p.m. Thursday.

Shortstop Jeremiah Jackson, playing his first home series with the Tides, clubbed a solo home run to start Norfolk’s three-run second inning. Jordyn Adams and Chadwick Tromp both scored on wild pitches later that inning by Nashville starter Tobias Myers (0-3).

After Bobby Dalbec’s RBI triple in the third cut Norfolk’s lead to 3-1, Jackson also hit a single in the fifth to bring home Gary Sánchez for a 4-1 edge. Also in the fifth, Adams hit a single to bring home Jud Fabian despite being thrown out trying to stretch it to a double.

Nashville’s Eddie Rosario scored on a Tyler Black groundout in the eighth.

Tides starter Cameron Weston limited the Sounds to one run and three hits in four innings, striking out seven. Levi Stoudt (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings for the victory, and Western Branch High graduate Colin Selby shut out the Sounds in the ninth for his second save of the year.

Dalbec was just a home run short of the cycle, though he had half of the Sounds’ six hits. Starter Tobias Myers (0-3) gave up five earned runs, a hit batsman and nine hits for the loss.
