Major leaguers continue power surge as Norfolk Tides blast five more home runs in win over Louisville

A night after hitting six home runs, the Norfolk Tides blasted five more long balls in a 6-5 victory over the Louisville Bats on Thursday night at Louisville Slugger Field.

The recent power surge — 15 home runs in three games — has been led by a handful of Baltimore Orioles in the Tides’ clubhouse on rehab assignments, and Jordan Westburg and Gary Sanchez both homered on Thursday.

Westburg played his sixth game of rehab, while Sanchez played in his second and homered for the second straight night. They are among nine Orioles players who have been with Norfolk this season on rehab stints.

Ramon Laureano, Jeremiah Jackson and Dylan Beavers also homered, and Beavers’ solo shot in the sixth inning gave the Tides a 5-0 lead. Beavers and Jackson led the Tides with two hits each.

After the Bats rallied to tie it 5-5, Norfolk’s Fernando Peguero hit an RBI double in the top of the ninth inning for the game-winning run.

Tides starter Cameron Weston pitched six innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits and a walk while striking out seven.

Norfolk will go for its fourth consecutive victory Friday in Louisville, sending LHP Trevor Rogers (0-2, 6.63 ERA) against RHP Chase Pety (1-4, 3.31) in a 7:15 p.m. game.
