Former Arizona and Miami cornerback Emmanuel Karnley has signed with the University of Virginia out of the transfer portal, UVA announced Wednesday.
Karnley, a 6-3, 185-pound Walnut Creek, California, native, had ranked as the best available player in the portal, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.
A three-star recruit out of high school, Karnley transferred to Miami after last season. He decided to enter the portal again, though, this spring after not playing a game with the Hurricanes.
- Tuscarora High defensive lineman Lucas Allen announced on X that he has committed to William & Mary.
COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Hokies land guard from UNLV
Former UNLV guard Jailen Bedford will play for Virginia Tech next season, the Hokies announced Wednesday.
The 6-4, 180-pound Bedford, from Austin, Texas, averaged 10.2 points and 4.3 rebounds for the Runnin’ Rebels last season. He scored in double figures in 10 of his final 11 contests.
Bedford started his college career at Trinidad State, where he averaged 16.6 points per game.

UVA’s Walsh earns ACC honor
University of Virginia standout Gretchen Walsh has been named the ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women’s swimming and diving for the second straight year.
It is the sixth consecutive year a Cavalier has been selected for the award. Kate Douglass won it in 2022 and 2023 and Paige Madden received the honor in 2020 and 2021.

CNU women reach C2C final
No. 2 seed Christopher Newport defeated No. 3 seed Mary Washington 19-11 in a semifinal of the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse tournament on Wednesday.
The Captains will visit No. 1 seed Salisbury in the championship match at 1 p.m. Saturday.
- William & Mary lacrosse standout Paige Gilbert has earned second-team all-conference honors from the CAA. The Doylestown, Pennsylvania, native led the Tribe in goals (37), points (56) and draw controls (60) and ranked second on the team in assists (19).
- Hampton University has decided not to renew the contract of men’s lacrosse coach Chazz Woodson.
- Hampton University defender Zion Garcia made the All-CAA second team and teammate Alex Lacey made the all-rookie team.

NSU is No. 2 seed for MEAC tourney
Norfolk State has earned the No. 2 seed in the MEAC Softball Tournament, which the Spartans will host May 7-10 at the NSU Softball Field.
The Spartans went 21-21 overall and 14-7 in the MEAC — a marked improvement from last year’s 4-42 record.
Howard earned the No. 1 seed with 20-1 league record. Delaware State is the No. 3 seed, followed by Morgan State, North Carolina Central and South Carolina State.

- Virginia 9, VCU 8: Henry Ford hit a three-run homer to cap a six-run fourth inning as the Cavaliers outlasted the Rams on Tuesday night in Charlottesville. Ford finished 3 for 4 and Aidan Teel and James Nunnallee each added two hits and two RBIs for UVA (25-16). Casey Kleinman hit a three-run homer for VCU (14-30).
- Liberty 13, Virginia Tech 4: Michael Gibson had three hits and three RBIs and Nick Barone went 4 for 4 with three runs as the Flames (26-19) routed the Hokies (27-18) on Tuesday night in Blacksburg.

UVA men make Reno Regional
The Virginia men’s golf team earned the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Reno Regional, which will be held May 12-14 at Montreux Golf & Country Club in Nevada.
The top five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the NCAA finals, which will be take place May 23-28 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
Texas is the No. 1 seed in the regional.
