Captains climb to 15th, Jackets to 23rd
Christopher Newport and Randolph-Macon each moved up two spots in the d3football.com. The Captains (6-0) went to 15th after a 49-0 rout of Kean, and the Yellow Jackets (6-1) climbed to 23rd after a 47-0 dusting at Guilford.
JMU gains poll votes
After beating Old Dominion 63-27 Saturday, James Madison (6-1, 4-0 Sun Belt) got six poll points in the Associated Press poll and nine in the coaches’ poll. The Dukes ranked 32nd in the AP survey and shared 32nd with Iowa State in the coaches’ poll.

Tribe’s Irons, Trapp race to CAA awards
For the third time this season, William & Mary took both the CAA Men’s and Women’s Runner of the Week awards. Senior Perry Irons won her third honor of the season, while junior Hayes Trapp took home his second.
Sharing the award with Elon’s Katie Blount, Irons turned in a 6-kilometer time of 20 minutes, 10.7 seconds to finish eighth in the 270-runner field at the Princeton Fall Classic on Friday. Irons’ time was the fastest in a 6K for a Tribe runner since Emily Stites at the 2015 CAA championship race (20:00.2). She led the Tribe to a 12th-place finish in a 25-team field that featured 18 regionally ranked teams.
Trapp led the Tribe men with a 14th-place finish at the Princeton Fall Classic. He finished in 23:25.0, his career-best 8K time. It was the fastest 8K time for a Tribe runner in more than 15 years.
W&M finished 19th in a 31-team field that included three nationally ranked and 23 regionally ranked foes. The Tribe beat five regionally ranked teams, including defending CAA Champion Stony Brook.

No. 12 CNU shuts out Methodist
CNU (12-1-2), ranked 12th in NCAA Division III, shut out Methodist 3-0 in Fayetteville, North Carolina, the 13th victory in a row for the Captains against the Monarchs (4-3-6).
Hanna Heaton scored the first goal on a one-versus-one against the goalkeeper in the 40th minute. Brooke White netted a 23-yard free kick just 81 seconds later for a 2-0 lead.
Alex Dalakis capped the scoring in the 69th minute, converting off a Katy Bronski pass.

CNU rises to 19th in national poll
Christopher Newport (9-1-4) climbed to 19th in the Division III coaches’ poll. The Captains hold a four-game unbeaten streak headed into Wednesday’s 4 p.m. clash at North Carolina Wesleyan.
CNU’s Barry Jones was the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, and teammate Asher Kuzemka was the Defensive Player of the Week. Kuzemka assisted Jones’ goal in a 1-0 victory against Salisbury.

UVA sweeps Atlantic Region trophies
Virginia players won both the singles and doubles titles at the ITA Atlantic Regional in Blacksburg.
Senior Annabelle Xu and junior Vivian Yang were the co-champions in singles. Xu and sophomore Martina Genis Salas won the doubles draw.
By advancing to the final, Xu and Yang qualified to compete in the 64-player NCAA singles bracket, which will be contested Nov. 18-23 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
By winning the doubles title, Xu and Genis Salas qualified for the 32-team doubles bracket. They defeated Maryland’s Emma Ghirardato and Ema Kovacevic 6-3, 6-3 in the final.
VWU’s Flink captures conference honor
Virginia Wesleyan’s Tuva Flink was honored as the ODAC Singles Player of the Week. Though the Marlins lost 5-2 to Washington College in Maryland, she won 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 1.

Captains unanimous as national No. 1
CNU (14-0) stayed at No. 1 and was named a unanimous top pick by the 19 voters in the Division III coaches’ poll entering Wednesday’s 6 p.m. home game against St. Mary’s of Maryland.

CNU takes ‘Melee’
CNU won the Melee tournament at Ford’s Colony Country Club in Williamsburg by shooting an 11-over-par 579 for two rounds, six strokes better than runner-up Bridgewater and nine ahead of third-place Salisbury.
Salisbury’s Ryan Henneman led the 60-player field with a 4-under 138, finishing with a 7-under 64. CNU teammates Nick Alexander and Jacob Foti tied for fourth at 143.

Marlins’ Brooks takes weekly ODAC award
Virginia Wesleyan’s Breana Brooks was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Marlins beat Bridgewater and D-III No. 22 Washington and Lee by 3-0 scores.
Brooks had five blocks and eight kills against Bridgewater and three blocks and nine kills versus W&L.

W&L’s McEwen owns 3 ODAC awards this fall
Washington and Lee junior Jonathan McEwen, a Churchland High graduate, has been named the ODAC Player of the Week three times this fall. The latest came when he finished fourth among 87 golfers at the Tartan Invitational, firing a 4-over-par 220 for 54 holes for the sixth-place Generals.

Landstown’s Warren wins girls zone qualifier
Landstown’s Rachel Warren carded a 65 to win the Zone 2 girls state qualifier at Kempsville Greens Golf Club in Virginia Beach.
Warren won the one-day tournament by six strokes and leads three other golfers who qualified for the Virginia High School League’s Girls Open Tournament at Heritage Oaks Golf Course in Harrisonburg on Oct. 27.
Deep Creek’s Demi Mahiai was second after shooting a 71, followed by Grassfield’s Ellie Howell and Ocean Lakes’ Kaylee Bell at 74.
