As the Virginia Sprint Car Series took the spotlight on a Saturday night of fireworks at Langley Speedway, Chris Humblet prevailed with relative ease in a 25-lap race.
After a pair of heat races set the featured field of 13, Humblet — a Chesapeake native who lives in Camden, North Carolina — clocked a fastest lap of 14.461 seconds and beat runner-up Jerald Harris of the Harrisonburg area by 3.469.
Matt Mullins was a distant third, 11.103 seconds behind Humblet. Mullins also was third when those drivers competed at Langley in October 2024, when Harris won and Humblet was second.
Harris, from Dayton, also won a Virginia Sprint Car Series feature last June at Langley.
Virginia Mini Cup: In another touring series, Tyler Warriner motored to a 25-lap triumph by 1.616 seconds over Johnny Shonk in just more than 8:15.
Warriner, from Glen Allen, has won the Virginia Mini Cup Racing Association title the last four years. Shane Zupo was third in the field of 11, trailing Warriner by 1.788.
It was the Tyler Roach Memorial Race. Roach, who died unexpectedly at age 29 on July 14, 2024, and Warriner were friends who used to race karts together.
Legends: Points leader Tommy Jackson breezed to a 25-lap victory, defeating runner-up by Cody Carlton by 3.339 seconds in just less than 7 1/2 minutes for his second triumph of the year. Jackson turned a lap as fast as 17.618 seconds.
Scotty Benford was third in the field of 14, 3.725 off the lead.
Super Truck: Bill Wallace zoomed to a 25-lap victory in just less than 13:15, defeating runner-up Wesley Newell by 1.534 seconds. It was a coup for Wallace, who began the night just 11th in points and winless this season.
Paige Cain was third, 1.933 behind Wallace, the only one of the 13 drivers to complete a lap in faster than 19 seconds. Standings leader Chris Bechtel, who has four victories in 2025, was fourth.
Bandolero: Penelope Carlisle captured her first victory of the season, winning over 15 laps and barely more than 5 minutes and 4 seconds in a field of seven competitors.
She beat Landon Burbage by 335-thousandths of a second and third-place Nevaeh Edwards by 0.973 of a second. Burbage had won all four of the division’s previous races this year.
