The Norfolk Admirals play their ECHL home opener Friday night at Scope against the Worcester Railers, starting a two-game series that will finish Saturday night.
Brady Fleurent (two goals, one assist) and Jaydon Dureau (one goal, two assist) led the Admirals (1-1) on their opening trip last weekend, when they won in overtime at Savannah and lost to South Carolina.
The Railers (0-2) opened the season at home in Massachusetts, losing 5-0 to Maine and 5-3 to Adirondack. They’re affiliated with the NHL’s New York Islanders.

Tides reveal game times
The Norfolk Tides announced game times for the 2026 season. Among their 75 games, they will play 52 at night, all at 6:35, and all 23 home day games will be on Thursdays and Sundays.
July 9 against Syracuse and July 30 versus Worcester will be on Thursday nights. The Tides’ season will start March 27 against Nashville.

Thomas scores 15 in Nets’ opening loss
Chesapeake native Cam Thomas scored 15 points Thursday night in Brooklyn’s season opener, but the Nets lost 136-117 to the host Charlotte Hornets. Thomas was 11 of 13 at the free-throw line but just 2 of 9 from the field, including 0 of 2 from 3-point range. He had two assists, a rebound, a block and two turnovers in 24 minutes.
Brandon Miller scored 25 points in his first game since Jan. 15, Miles Bridges added 18 points and 11 rebounds, and the Hornets had a franchise-record nine players score in double digits in scoring. Two of those were rookie starters: Kon Knueppel (11 points) from Duke and Ryan Kalkbrenner (10 points and 11 rebounds) from Creighton.

Southern Miss rallies past ODU
Southern Mississippi (14-6, 6-3 Sun Belt) overcame Old Dominion 3-1 (12-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-22) to start a two-match series in Norfolk.
Rita Benidio led ODU (4-16, 1-8) with a career-high 17 kills, Elisa Maggi turned in a 13-kill, 16-dig double-double, and Wiktoria Zagumny provided 44 assists.
Towson outplays Hampton
Towson (19-3, 10-1 Coastal Athletic Association) swept Hampton 25-15, 25-21, 25-12 to begin a two-match series at Holland Hall.
Katerina Pappa had seven kills and Morgan Warren had 17 assists for the host Pirates (1-20, 0-11), who will get a rematch at 2 p.m. Friday.

Pirates score twice but fall to Elon
Hampton (5-11-1, 0-8 Coastal Athletic Association) lost 3-2 to Elon (10-2-4, 4-2-2) at Powhatan Field in Norfolk.
The Phoenix led 2-0 before Shania Harris’ penalty kick in the 33rd minute and Jayda Sutton’s curling corner kick in the 69th tied the score at 2. It was the first time the Pirates have scored twice in a CAA match.
Elon netted the winning goal in the 76th minute after Jess Beck converted a pass from Gabby Hoschek.
No. 11 Florida State scores late to beat No. 3 UVA
Led by Jordynn Dudley’s two goals and one assist, No. 11 Florida State (9-2-3, 5-2-2 ACC) ended a three-match winless streak by overcoming No. 3 Virginia 3-2 in Charlottesville. All five goals came in the second half.
Addison Halpern put UVA (10-2-3, 4-2-2) ahead 1-0 with a header off Liv Rademaker’s cross in the 49th minute, but Dudley scored for the Seminoles in the 59th and 64th for a 2-1 margin.
Halpern took a header that was knocked in by Meredith McDermott for the tying goal in the 79th minute, only to see Dudley assist Wrianna Hudson with the winning goal in the 89th.
No. 1 Irish shut out Hokies
No. 1 Notre Dame (13-0-1, 8-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) rolled to a 5-0 victory at Virginia Tech (4-10-3, 0-8-1) despite a less-dominating 16-11 margin in shots.
Midway through the first half, the Irish netted three goals in eight minutes. They came against Lauren Hargrove, who became the fourth Hokies goalkeeper to reach the 5,000-minute career mark.
