Ben Kablach (2-1) earned the win with 5.1 innings, allowing one run while striking out nine. Hank Brown earned the save. Conner Worth and Ethan Rayno led the offense with two hits a piece.

#6 Western Branch 19, Nansemond River 34

Logan Adams (four hits, three RBIs) Jakson Walter (three hits), Frankie Juguilon (three hits, four RBIs) paced the Bruins (13-5).

#10 Hickory 9, #11 Grassfield 3

The Hawks’ Jake Cozart struck out 12, scattering five hits over six scoreless innings, to earn the victory and Brayden Bachman and Caleb Evans had three hits each.

#15 Landstown 8, Kempsville 1

Colin Kim had three hits and scored two runs and Aidan Ross added two hits and two RBIs.

Bay Rivers District

York 16, Bruton 1

Preston Turkovich finished with three hits and three RBIs and Will Hunt added a triple and drove in a run. Cole Johannes threw five scoreless innings, striking out five and permitting two hits.

Beach District

Tallwood 3, Kellam 0 

Carson Taylor tossed a complete game, striking out eight, and Carson Whaley and Drake Barnes combined for four hits.

Eastern District

Churchland 14, Norview 2

Evan Jackson struck out nine over six innings, Jeremiah Lunceford had four hits and seven RBIs and Cameron Duke had two hits and scored four runs for the Truckers (11-4).

Peninsula District

Kecoughtan 7, Woodside 6

Kason Boone finished with three RBIs and Khai Chambers went 2 for 3 with a double for the Warriors, who scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning. Aiden Bain was the winning pitcher.

Southeastern District

Indian River 12, Deep Creek 0

Ace Chambers (3-3) tossed a two-hit shutout over five innings, while Jaydon Crawford and Kalvin Murphy each went 2 for 2 with two RBIs and Riley Ming and Dakota Stodolak drove in two runs each. Murphy also scored three runs.

Lakeland 11, King’s Fork 1

The Cavaliers pounded out 11 hits and Cash Harrington pitched five innings, allowing two hits and striking out nine.

VISAA Division I semifinals

Cape Henry 8, Bishop O’Connell 2

Colin Lebel struck out nine over 5.1 innings and helped himself at the plate with two hits and two RBIs as the fourth-seeded Dolphins advanced to their sixth consecutive state semifinal appearance. Reid Downs, Colin Lebel, and Harley Matela each contributed two RBIs. Cape Henry, which won state titles in 2022 and 2023, plays No. 1 seed Miller School — coached by 2025 Baseball Hall of Fame inductee Billy Wagner — in a semifinal Friday at 5 p.m. at Shepherd Stadium in Colonial Heights.

The Trojans dominated to earn a spot in Saturday’s state championship game — with a chance to win a seventh consecutive VISAA title.

Taylor Ryan had three hits, including her ninth home run of the season, while Reese Baker and Emily Willis also homered to for the Hawks. Tegan Gabrielse (11-1) picked up the win on the mound.

Kaileigh Taylor was 4 for 4 with five RBIs, Ashley Matthews added three hits and two RBIs and Haylee Bandura picked up the win with nine 9 strikeouts.

#7 Great Bridge 15, Oscar Smith 1

Lexi Curtis and Gabbie Parker combined for four hits and five RBIs and Bailey Bliven was the winning pitcher.

#9 Ocean Lakes 9, #13 Cox 0

Addison Munson, Kaitlin Wilms, Shelby Matson and Sam Patterson combined for 11 hits and nine RBIs, and Patterson fanned 13 in a one-hit shutout.

#10 Kempsville 8, Landstown 1

Olivia McGinty and Maddie Lane sparked the Chiefs with two hits each.

The Tigers’ Alayna Davidson had three hits, two runs and two RBIs and Lakelyn Bagheri and Ashlyn Grogg added two hits apiece.

Beach District

Green Run 4, Salem 2

Lily Thomas and Andrea Wilson-Howard drove in back-to-back runs to break a tie for the Stallions, while Jasyiah Liverman led them defensively with eight putouts.

Peninsula District

Kecoughtan 24, Woodside 0 

Reagan Oszust blasted a three-run home run to straightaway centerfield and pitched a five-inning complete game shutout, striking out 10 and allowing just one hit three other baserunners (two walks, 1 HBP). Emaleigh Hicks went 4 for 4 (three doubles and a single) with five RBIs.

Nansemond-Suffolk 21, Cape Henry 1

Right-hander Marin McGowan struck out seven batters to become the Saints’ all-time leader in strikeouts, reaching 500 in her career, in a dominating performance at Dinwiddie Sports Complex on Thursday.

Nansemond-Suffolk plays Fredericksburg Christian at 3 p.m. Friday for the state championship in a quest for the Saints sixth consecutive crown.

NSA’s Malli Groves added three hits and three RBIs and Mackenzie Farrell had two hits and drove in three runs.

VISAA Division III semifinals

Greenbrier Christian 11, Fuqua 2

Katelyn Balka (10-1) scattered three hits and Peyton Moran and Bayleigh Kaliher combined for six hits and five RBIs as the Gators cruised into Friday’s championship game at Dinwiddie Athletic Complex. Moran finished with two home runs and reached 100 career RBIs.

Greenbrier Christian plays Brunswick Academy at 5 p.m. Friday, seeking the program’s second state championship in three seasons and 12th overall.

“Today truly showed what this season has been all about and that is team over self,” Gators coach Kelly Gregory said. “It’s been a team effort from top to bottom all season long, and these girls have had each other’s back at every turn.”

Thomas Newman scored two goals for the Bulldogs.

Girls lacrosse

First Colonial 21, Landstown 3

Addison Kiser finished with five goals and seven draw controls — surpassing 100 in her career. Maddy Reynaldo (four goals, four assists), Ella Cawdery (three goals, two assists) and Hannah Lewis (three goals, two assists) also contributed for the Patriots.

Cole Schuler netted the game’s only goal and Tim Adams led the backline in the shutout.

Aiden Glod scored in the first half and Andrew Hudak preserved the shutout in goal as Hawks (9-4-1) won a key Southeastern District match-up between two of the 757’s hottest teams. Hickory improved to 6-0-1 in its past seven games, allowing just one goal during that stretch, and handed the Grizzlies their first loss since March — a span of eight games in which Grassfield went 7-0-1.

Jackson Tornatore scored twice and Anarez Porter and Ethan Lindquist also scored.

Maria Delyannis scored twice and Addy Hennessy added a goal as the Bulldogs earned another berth in the state championship game.

The teams played a scoreless first half before Norfolk Academy struck with two quick second-half goals to take command.

The Bulldogs play Collegiate School at 1 p.m. Saturday in Richmond for the state title.

Easton Ford and Mael Poitrasson rallied from 3-6 to win 9-7 at No. 2 doubles, and Ford clinched the match at No. 5 singles with a 7-5, 6-3 victory.

Southeastern District

Hickory High 9 Grassfield 0

James Jenson won 7-5, 6-1 on Court 1, and seniors Will Katchmark, Parker Dudley, Graham Hollon and Ethan Schneider also won in singles, along with sophomore Parker Dudley.

Western Branch 9, Nansemond River 0

The Bruins’ Troy Beers rallied from a set down to win in a decisive third-set tie breaker.

Senior Jo Jones teamed with Lane Austin to win at No. 2 doubles 8-4 and senior Paige Rooney teamed with Katie Iulo for the win at No. 3 doubles 8-2 as Kellam celebrated Senior Night.
