Lionsbridge (3-0-1) shut out Greenville United of eastern North Carolina 3-0 at a packed TowneBank Stadium on Sunday night, outshooting the visitors 19-5 for a non-division victory.
Lions goalkeeper Henry Hampshaw saved a penalty kick by AB Mbaye in the 39th minute, keeping the match scoreless. In the 45th minute, Marcelo Lopes was fouled and Sam Hall netted a penalty kick for a 1-0 halftime lead.
Gabriel Rodriguez set up Christian Hatley for a tap-in goal in the 49th minute. Lincoln Ulrich capped the scoring in the 88th minute, heading a cross from Luc Acherman.
Va. Beach City FC wins home opener
Virginia Beach City FC won its home opener Saturday night, defeating the Alexandria Rough Diamonds 3-1 at Powhatan Field in Norfolk.
After the Rough Diamonds’ goalkeeper saved a penalty kick by Joel Albritton, Alexandria scored first in the 10th minute. But VBCFC’s Gabe Zarate evened the game in the 45th minute, late in the first half.
Webb Kosich’s goal in the 54th minute put VBCFC (2-1) ahead, and Jayden Walker made it 3-1 in the 80th minute.
Before that match, VBCFC’s new USL W League club, Virginia Atlantic FC, lost 3-1 to the Richmond Ivy at Powhatan Field.
The Ivy moved ahead 3-0 on goals by Olivia Woodson in the fifth minute, Sara Rosenbaum in the 20th and Maci Landel in the 29th.
Atlantic (0-2) got its goal from Mary Boateng in the 53rd minute.

Class 6 Region A finals moved indoors
Because of rain in Monday’s forecast, the final day of the Class 6 Region A individual tournament was moved from Western Branch High in Portsmouth to James River Country Club’s indoor courts in Newport News.
No. 3 seed Chloe Samuels of Landstown will face No. 5 Niharika Ketha of Deep Run at 10 a.m. for the singles title. Following that match, the doubles semifinals and championship match will be held.
Samuels and Johanna Pilapil, the only Hampton Roads-area team remaining, will face Deep Run’s Daniella Jeyasingh and Chiara Bognetti. Ketha and Olivia Wetzel will take on Glen Allen’s Arden Ebbesen and Marisa Kazzie in the other semifinal.

Veritas grad reaches NCAA doubles final
Senior Vuk Vuksanovic of Tufts, an alum of Chesapeake’s Veritas Collegiate Academy who grew up in Montenegro, joined Jumbos teammate Javier Gonzalez in qualifying for Monday’s NCAA Division III men’s doubles championship match in Claremont, California.
Vuksanovic won two doubles matches Saturday with Gonzalez, a Spanish junior who retired early in Sunday’s singles semifinals because of an apparent foot injury. But he was healthy enough to play doubles about four hours later, and the pair won 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 against Stefan Hester and Pato Garcia Muriel of St. Louis’ Washington University.
Vuksanovic and Gonzalez will play at 3 p.m. Eastern versus Chicago’s Andrei Leonov and Pat Otero.
