Father Danny Edwards, son Donovan drive to Langley Late Model victories

It was a Saturday night for a father and son in perhaps Hampton Roads auto racing’s most famous family.

Danny Edwards won a Late Model race at Langley Speedway, his second victory this season and something he has done dozens of times through the years in Hampton.

But in the second twin 50-lap race, his son Donovan Edwards captured a breakthrough victory among 11 drivers. What’s more: Points leader Greg Edwards — Danny’s brother and Donovan’s uncle — was the runner-up in both races.

Danny Edwards easily won the 14-minute, 6-second-plus opener by 2.663 seconds over Greg Edwards, his fellow member in the Athletic Hall of Fame of the Lower Virginia Peninsula. Woody Howard was third, 3.087 behind Danny.

Donovan Edwards, who was seventh in the opener, got to start in the No. 2 position in the encore because the top eight were inverted. In a race lasting more than 14:24, he eventually held off Greg, who started seventh, by 388-thousandths of a second.

Ryley Music was third, 2.105 off the lead, and Danny was seventh.

Donovan became the Late Model Division’s ninth winner this season, the most since Langley Speedway reopened in 2017 after a one-year shutdown.

Greg Edwards, who has more than 150 Late Model victories and is in his 37th year driving at Langley, is on course for his eighth Late Model championship, which would break a tie with Phil Warren for the most all-time. Danny Edwards has won six championships.

In other divisions:

Modified: Brad Adams emerged atop a five-driver field, winning a 40-lap race in just less than 11:35. He beat Spencer Conrad by 2.001 seconds and third-place Rick Gdovic by 2.471.

It was the third victory of the season for Adams, countering Conrad’s three and Gdovic’s two. Adams started the night one point of Conrad and 14 ahead of Gdovic.

Enduro: Thomas Fontaine took the checkered flag after 30 laps and more than 10:13, beating Alex Floroff by 413-thousandths of a second for his second triumph of 2025. Zac Herdlein placed third, 1.767 seconds off the lead.

Herdlein, who leads the division with four victories, began the evening 10 points ahead of Floroff and 14 ahead of Fontaine. Five of the 14 competitors finished on the lead lap.

Grand Stock: Tim Wilson cruised to a 40-lap victory in more than 12:38, with points leader Paul Lubno 2.867 seconds behind in the runner-up spot. Third-place Bill Eaker was 7.702 seconds behind.

Only six drivers competed. Lubno and Wilson have four victories apiece this year, but no one else has gone to Dale Lemonds Victory Lane.

Super Truck: Bill Wallace zoomed to a 25-lap victory, with Chase McAdams second and Chris McEvoy third among 10 drivers.

It was the third victory of the year for Wallace, who took the green flag ninth in the standings. Points leader Chris Bechtel was sixth.

Legends: Scotty Benford scored a 25-lap victory, followed by points leader Tommy Jackson in second, Cody Carlton in third and 13-year-old Mason Weakley in fourth.

Benford began the night just 14th in points but will move up with his first triumph in 2025.

Bandolero: Landon Burbage continued his command of the division, breezing to a 15-lap victory in just more than 5:03.
The points leader outpaced runner-up Penelope Carlisle by 2.043 seconds and third-place Jase Rogers by 2.237 in the seven-driver field for his seventh victory in eight tries this year.
