Chesapeake’s Brenden “Butterbean” Queen will make his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut when he drives the No. 11 car for Kaulig Racing in this weekend’s race in Bristol, Tennessee.
Queen, a former Langley Speedway champion, leads the ARCA Menards Series standings. He’ll be at Bristol, which bills itself as “The Last Great Colosseum,” for Friday’s 7:30 p.m. race.

Mullen’s 2 goals lift ODU past VCU
Riley Mullen scored in the sixth and 19th minutes for Old Dominion (4-1-1), and the Monarchs held on to defeat VCU 2-1 in Richmond.
Katie Lutz and Yuliia Khrystiuk had assists for the Monarchs, who won their second game in a row. Vivian Vendt halved the deficit for the Rams (2-3-2) in the 40th minute, but goalkeeper Ellie Goodrich made three saves in helping preserve the lead.
Resilient W&M earns tie at No. 20 Virginia Tech
William & Mary (2-3-2) erased three second-half deficits Sunday night to gain a 3-3 tie at No. 20 Virginia Tech (4-2-2) before a crowd of 824 in Blacksburg.
The Hokies outshot the Tribe 12-7 over 90 minutes and led 1-0 at halftime off Hannah Pachan’s goal in the 19th minute.
Ivey Crain pulled W&M even at 1-1 in the 58th minute, only to see Anna Weir put the Hokies up 2-1 exactly a minute later. Lindsay Wilson then scored for a 2-2 game in the 64th minute.
Taylor Lewin’s goal in the 71st minute gave the Hokies their final advantage, but Brooke Oswald scored off an Ellie Leffler assist with 1:54 remaining on the clock.
Hampton ties Delaware State
Hampton (3-3-1) twice rallied from behind to gain a 2-2 draw with Delaware State (2-3-1) at Powhatan Field in Norfolk, with all the goals coming in the first half.
The Hornets’ Trinity Surowiec scored in the eighth and 13th minutes, but HU answered each time. Caitlyn Peace scored off a Nylah Jennings assist in the 12th, and Makayla Wade added the Pirates’ second goal in the 40th.
No. 3 CNU shuts out Mount St. Joseph
Molly Seventko scored twice in the first 20 minutes and assisted Alex Devers’ goal in the 52nd as Christopher Newport (4-0), ranked third in Division III, shut out Mount St. Joseph 4-0. Gloucester’s Hanna Heaton scored in the 21st minute on a 19-yard free kick.
Marlins also stay unbeaten
Host Virginia Wesleyan (3-0-1) rallied for a 1-1 tie against Mary-Hardin Baylor as Alaina Alston scored from a Shyenne Diaz assist with 1:11 remaining.

CNU, Virginia Wesleyan overcome Redlands
Christopher Newport (2-0-2) completed a two-victory weekend Sunday with a 2-1 triumph over visiting Redlands (1-3) of Southern California.
Drew McWhinney’s goal in the 18th minute and Asher Kuzemka’s goal in the 70th proved decisive, sandwiching a goal by the Bulldogs in the 52nd.
Meanwhile, Virginia Wesleyan (3-0-1) topped William Paterson 1-0 on Ryan McAdams’ goal in the 52nd minute.
Saturday, CNU defeated William Paterson 2-1 on goals from Carson Friedlein in the 26th minute and Tim McGuire in the 41st.
Meanwhile, Virginia Wesleyan handled Redlands 2-1. Zach Bittler scored 1:34 into the game for the Marlins, and he and Warwick High graduate JaMarhe Wills assisted Cowen Napior on the winning goal 23 seconds after halftime.
Bucknell outplays ODU
Despite goals in the second and 90th minutes by Lewis Rourke, Old Dominion lost 4-2 at Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Jake Lane assisted both goals.
An own goal against the Monarchs (1-2-2) tied the score, and Jakub Samelko’s goal in the 44th minute put the Bison (3-1-1) ahead for good.
Tribe, UMBC play to draw
William & Mary (0-2-2) played to a 1-1 home draw against Maryland Baltimore County (4-0-1). The Tribe’s Sam Delgado scored in the 44th minute off assists from Diogo Branco and Evan Rabush, but the Retrievers pulled even on Andres Javitt’s 20-yard free kick in the 61st.
Randolph-Macon won 6-2 over Regent (2-1) despite goals by Graylan Gill and Yann-Olivier Kamga. Menchville High graduate Davian Jackson of R-MC assisted the first of Grayson Woods’ two goals.

ODU breaks through vs. UMBC
Old Dominion (1-5) captured its first victory of the year, edging Maryland Baltimore County 3-2 (29-27, 24-26, 14-25, 25-17, 15-13) Saturday at the Retrievers’ round-robin tournament.
Elisa Maggi had 20 kills and 11 digs and Wiktoria Zagumny had 46 assists for ODU.
Also in that event, William & Mary (3-2) fell 3-1 (25-20, 24-26, 27-25, 26-24) to Maryland (2-2) despite Hickory High alumna Ryann Love’s 11 blocks and Katherine Arnason’s 19 kills.
Christopher Newport (3-3), which lost Friday to Bridgewater and 12th-ranked Trinity of San Antonio after beginning the season ranked 21st in Division III, bounced back Saturday by defeating William Paterson 3-1 (25-19, 25-16, 20-25, 26-24) in the Captains Challenge at Freeman Center. CNU’s Maddie Hanes, from Grassfield High, had 20 digs and two aces.
Norfolk State (0-7) lost 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-22) to Campbell and 3-1 (25-15, 25-19, 19-25, 25-21) to Gardner-Webb to close the Campbell Invitational. Against Gardner-Webb, Sydney McCree had 37 assists and 22 digs.

W&M captures first victory of season
Josie Mae Gruendel scored two timely goals as William & Mary (1-3) dramatically defeated Lafayette 2-1 Sunday for its first victory of the season, knocking off the previously unbeaten Leopards (3-1) from Easton, Pennsylvania, who are the reigning Patriot League champs.
Lafayette went ahead with 6:55 left in regulation, but Gruendel scored with 2:04 remaining and with 22 seconds to go.
Penn defeated Old Dominion 4-2 in the Tiger Invitational at Princeton’s field. The Monarchs, who lost 2-1 Friday to Princeton, fell to 1-3.
Host Christopher Newport (3-0), ranked sixth in Division III, edged Washington and Lee 1-0 on Emily Evans’ goal off Courtney Hughlett’s assist in the 23rd minute. The Captains held a 32-8 advantage in shots over the Generals (1-2).
No. 3 Virginia (3-0) blanked No. 16 Rutgers 1-0 in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge in Columbus, Ohio. Madison Orsi scored with 3:18 left in regulation for the Cavaliers, who outshot the Scarlet Knights 7-2.
