Modified drivers Chris Johnson, Brad Adams race to first victories of year at Langley Speedway


HAMPTON —  Chris Johnson and Brad Adams drove to 30-lap Modified victories in Langley Speedway featured races Saturday night. It was the first triumph of the year for both.

In the opener, Johnson overcame runner-up Ryley Music by 538-thousandths of a second in a race that took about 8:41. Peyton Ferree was a distant third, 3.999 seconds behind the leader, in a field of 12.

Adams, fifth in the first race, built a large edge in the encore and held on to defeat Ferree by 0.906 of a second. Johnson was third, 1.700 off the lead. DJ Valente, who began the night with the season points lead, got stuck in the grass after spinning between Turns 3 and 4 and finished last.

In other divisions:

Virginia Racers: Ayden Millette won a 50-lap thriller by 263-thousandths of a second, which relegated Music, the series’ points leader, to his second runner-up finish of the evening. Donovan Edwards took third, just 0.563 of a second behind Millette, in the field of 17 competitors.

It was Millette’s second win of the season, and it took more than 27:17.

Super Street: Hampton’s Dale Nichols achieved his fourth victory of the year in six races, winning by a relatively comfortable 1.034 seconds over Gordon Weeks after 40 laps and about 23:15. Jacob Wood took third among 14 drivers, 1.849 off the lead.

Pro Six: Travis Wall made it 3 for 3 in division races in 2024, finishing 25 laps in about 7:20 to finish 2.199 seconds ahead of runner-up Trey New. Jaxon Boone placed third among eight entrants.

UCAR: Christian Keller took a dominant lead, saw it reduced by a late caution flag, then pulled away again to win a 25-lap race by 694-thousandths of a second over Richard Quinn. Mikey Chinn was third, 1.158 behind the victor, in a race that took about 20:19 and included 14 drivers.
It was Keller’s fourth victory in five races, extending his points edge for the year.

Enduro: Charlie Bryant closed the program with a 30-lap victory over a fast-closing Alex Floroff, the series points leader. It was the first victory of the year for Bryant; Floroff has three triumphs.

The race went uninterrupted until there were less than three laps to go, when it was red-flagged. Bryant, last year’s points champion, never let Floroff past him, and Zachary Herdlein placed third.
